MCM Training Week 7 & #7daystretch challenge

Training for: Marine Corps Marathon October 25, 2015 in Washington, D.C

Next Race: September 13 -pacing @ Surftown Half Marathon Westerly, RI

Method: Run Less, Run Faster Novice Marathon Training

Goal: Originally, I was just praying to finish (still my #1 goal), and I wanted to finish in under 5 hours. My training has me at a MP of 10:53 giving me a finish time of 4:45:21. Based on how my runs are going, I think I can pull this off. As they say, trust your training! So I’m getting less conservative with my goals… Wish me luck!!!

61 days until Marine Corps Marathon!

Going into this week, I was nervous to run after having such a GREAT 14 miler last week. I didn’t think I would get through a run that didn’t match up to how good that one was. I soon got over that and I nailed my three runs this week. Still slacked on the cross training. (read: did nothing but run) However, I’ve already made an effort to change that this upcoming week. I’m very happy with my runs and feel like I am continuously getting stronger.

Monday: plan: 6x800m. actual: 3.82 miles in 40:00 (10:28 avg) hit all the intervals

Tuesday: rest

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: plan: 1 easy, 6 at long tempo, 1 easy actual: 8.04 miles in 1:22:18 (10:14 avg)

It was a hot, humid day and I was dreading this run but somehow, I nailed it. My paces were faster than I needed but I’ll take that over slower any day! I kept telling myself to slow down a little but I couldn’t seem to settle into a slower pace. My long tempo pace, according to RLRF, should be 10:13. I ended up with 9:48, 9:40, 10:26, 10:25, 9:48, 9:50. I’m not sure what got into me!

Friday: rest

Saturday: plan: 10 miles at MP+15 actual: 10.01 in 1:49:47 (10:58 avg)

I was able to meet up with my new running group for this one. Since I’ve joined, their runs have been a little further away and to me, it wasn’t worth the drive. This run was on a local bike path that I had been wanting to run on so I jumped at the chance to have some running buddies and check it out.

We met up at 7:30 (I had just gotten out of work at 7 – crazy I know). Pace started off a little fast for me but soon, we fell back a little and settled into a comfortable pace. I stayed paired with one girl. We ended up going the full 10 miles together. It was nice to have a buddy. I was tired (from working) and I could tell it was affecting my run. Nothing terrible just not as well rested as I would have liked. I joked, saying, it would help me when race day jitters set in and I cannot sleep the night before Marine Corps!

Sunday: rest
